Welcome to East Buchanan Community Schools! A Great Place to be!
We are proud of the reputation we have earned as an educational
institution, and we believe that we are providing a well-balanced educational experience for all students. Our primary emphasis
in the East Buchanan Community School District is on the education of "all students". As educators, parents, and
citizens of the East Buchanan School District, our focus must and will remain on students. Research has shown that a strong bond between school and home results in a higher achievement of learning. Working together between school, home and community will help prepare today's students for tomorrow's world. The most important element in
accelerating learning is the improvement of the instructional process. At East Buchanan, as well as all districts, we
have invested a great deal of time and resources in professional development and training for our staff. We have a professional
group of teachers. We need to continue to look forward giving guidance and instruction to help teachers meet student
needs. East Buchanan Elementary is a PK-K arrangement.
We feel that students are given every chance for success at EB. We are a two section elementary. Our average class
size is 21. Our preschool and kindergarten classrooms have teaching associates in the classrooms to help ensure readiness.
Preschool at EB accommodates 3,4, and 5 year-old children. Our Early Childhood Emergent Literacy program utilizes the services of two Reading Recovery
teachers at the first grade level. A reading intervention instructor at grades 2-5 also serves to strengthen our commitment
to successful readers. Talented and Gifted programs are also utilized to enrich an already well structured curriculum.
We offer music and
physical education on an every other day format. Art and technology classes are offered once during every six day cycle.
Fifth grade students are introduced into band and have the opportunity to join. We have a Library Media Center that was built in 2003
that serves all K-12 students. Elementary students have access to three iMac labs(3rd floor lab, Open Access Lab and
LMC Lab) and new to this year a mobile lab. There are three computers in each classroom. The elementary addition
utilizes geo-thermal heating and cooling. East Buchanan uses the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) as its first assessment
and the Northwest Evaluation Association MAP test as its second assessment. NWEA MAP test is a computer generated assessment.
Students are also assessed with the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS). DIBELS are a set of
standardized, individually administered measures of early literacy development. We are served by Area Education Agency 267 located
in Cedar Falls. AEA 267 provides such services as: Special Education, Educational Services, and Media Services.
Our commitment to
quality education at East Buchanan Elementary is the corner stone of all we do.
